Reason for service change

The tram tracks at the junction of Spencer and Collins streets, have reached the end of their life cycle.
To continue to deliver a safe and reliable tram service to the area, these tram tracks must be replaced. 

Tram service changes

• Route 11 trams runs between West Preston and Stop 5 Elizabeth Street
• Route 12 trams run in sections between:
  • St Kilda and Stop 124 Batman Park
  • Victoria Gardens and Stop 1 Spencer Street on La Trobe Street, diverting via La Trobe Street
• Route 30 trams will not run
• Route 35 (City Circle) trams will not run
• Route 48 trams run between North Balwyn and Stop D3 Bourke Street, diverting via Flinders Street to Harbour Esplanade
• Route 96 trams run in sections between:
  • East Brunswick and Stop 119 Latrobe/Spencer Street
  • St Kilda Beach and Stop 124 Batman Park
• Route 109 trams run in sections between:
  • Box Hill and Stop 5 Elizabeth Street
  • Port Melbourne and Stop 124 Batman Park

Additional service changes apply during Firelight Festival on Friday 30 June, Saturday 1 July & Sunday 2 July

Tram stop changes

The following tram stops will be closed: 

• Stop 122 Southern Cross Station (96)
• Stop D18 Victoria Harbour Docklands (11, 48)
• Stop D17 Collins Landing (11, 48)
• Stop D16 Harbour Esplanade/Collins Street (11, 48)
• Stop D15 Batman's Hill (11, 48)
• Stop D14 Southern Cross Station (11, 48)
• Stop 1 Spencer/Collins Street (11, 12, 48, 109)
• Stop 3 William/Collins Street

Alternative travel

To Victoria Harbour Docklands:

• Route 70 and 75 trams from Flinders Street
• Route 48 trams diverting via Flinders Street to Harbour Esplanade

To / from St Kilda Beach and Port Melbourne towards the city:

• Route 48, 70 and 75 trams along Flinders Street, it is a short 50m walk between Stop 1 Spencer/Flinders St and Stop 124 Batman Park.
• Passengers may consider walking between Stop 124 Batman Park and to Stop 5 Elizabeth Street (Collins Street) via Elizabeth Street services or to Stop 1 Southern Cross Station (Bourke Street) for Route 96 trams to East Brunswick.

To St Kilda and South Melbourne:

• Route 16 trams traveling along Swanston Street and St Kilda Road
• Passengers traveling to South Melbourne may also consider Route 1 trams traveling along Swanston Street and connect to Route 12 trams at Clarendon Street
• Route 96 passengers traveling to St Kilda Beach may also consider walking from Stop 1 Southern Cross Station (Bourke Street) to Stop 124 Batman Park to continue their journey.

Temporary bus stop closures on Collins Street

During the works, Route 232, 235 and 237 will not service the following stops;

• Southern Cross Station/ Collins Street (both directions)
• Collins Square/ Batmans Hill Drive (to Altona North/ Fishermans Bend)
• Collins Square/ Collins Street (to Queen Victoria Market)

Passengers are advised to use a temporary stop on Flinders Street, at the corner of Spencer Street (both directions)

Accessibility

Saturday 1 July to Sunday 9 July, 7am to 9pm each day passengers needing an accessible service can consider a Travellers Aid minibus between Stop 124A Casino / MCEC and Collins / Elizabeth Street or a buggy service between Stop 124A Casino / MCEC and Southern Cross Station
