Brunswick Tram Depot Upgrade

March 2024 - December 2026

The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) and Yarra Trams are upgrading the Brunswick Tram Depot to support the addition of larger trams to the fleet, additional trams in the depot and provide improved accessibility and safety.

Final works to complete the Brunswick Tram Depot Upgrade Project

As part of our final upgrades works at the Brunswick Tram Depot, we’re:

•    Upgrading the Brunswick Tram Depot as we add larger trams and improve how the network operates.
•    Installing a pair of level-access stops at Moreland Road, at Cameron Street, to improve accessibility and connectivity.
•    Building a new tram depot exit onto Sydney Road to minimise delays to services in the morning peak and reduce congestion on Moreland Road.

There will be detours in place on Sydney Road and Moreland Road, and public transport service changes during these works.

These works will take place in three stages of 24-hour works:

Cameron Street: 1am, Friday 21 August to 10pm, Monday 5 October.
What to expect:
•    The closure of Cameron Street between Prowse Street and Moreland Road.
•    24/7 works.
•    Access to businesses will continue to be via Tinning Street and the council carpark.
•    Pedestrian access maintained where safe to do so.
•    Ongoing closure of Upfield Shared Use Path with bike rider detours via Tinning and Colebrook streets.
•    Extremely high levels of noise at times while we break out the tram tracks, complete saw cutting, deep excavation and breakthrough underground materials.
