Brunswick Tram Depot Upgrade

The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) and Yarra Trams are upgrading the Brunswick Tram Depot to support the addition of larger trams to the fleet, additional trams in the depot and provide improved accessibility and safety.

Works are continuing into 2027 as we build the new tram terminus on Cameron Street and complete work to connect the new subtation to the depot stabling yard. 

Upcoming works:

Cameron Street works extension 

We need to extend the closure of Cameron Street to complete this work and connect the new substation to the depot stabling yard.

We thank the community for their patience while we complete these works.

What’s happening?

• Completing the terminus track to provide increased operational capacity.

• Tunnelling underneath Cameron Street and the shared use path to connect the electrical supply from the new substation to the depot stabling yard.

• Upgrading tram signalling and overhead wires.

What to expect?

• The large vehicle detour will remain in place via the Council car park for access into Cameron Street.

• Tinning, Prowse, Cozens and Peveril streets will be open during our works.

• Cameron Street will be open from Moreland Road to Peveril Street.

• The Upfield shared use path will continue to detour via Colebrook Street.

• Noise levels will be mostly low to medium with short periods where noise levels may increase to high when we install track and complete tunnelling. High noise activities will be scheduled during the day.

• Works will take place during the day. If out of hours works are required, we'll let you know in advance.

• Businesses located around the works will remain open. Please continue to support local business during these essential works

• Emergency services access will be maintained.
