As part of the modernisation of Melbourne's tram network, Yarra Trams and Public Transport Victoria (PTV) are proposing to construct a new accessible tram stop on Flinders Street at Russell Street.

Flinders Street is one of Melbourne's busiest tram corridors and a key route for passengers travelling to Melbourne's sport and entertainment precinct.

The existing safety zone at the intersection of Flinders and Russell streets experiences significant usage each weekday.

The upgraded level access platform stop will provide:

  • easier and safer access to trams
  • increased protection from road traffic
  • real-time passenger information
  • improved passenger amenity including shelters, seating and lighting.

A consultation report has been compiled and submitted to City of Melbourne who will be evaluating the findings and making a decision in the coming weeks. More information will be provided as it comes to hand.
