Getting to the New Year's Eve celebrations

  • Extra trams run throughout the night to get you to the city celebrations and back home.
  • Public transport, both metropolitan and regional, is free from 6pm Tuesday 31 December until 6am Wednesday 1 January
  • Route 58 and 96 trams run as normal and are your best options for tram services to and from the city centre.
  • Trams along Swanston, Flinders, Elizabeth and Collins streets, St Kilda Road and in Docklands run an altered service.
    Affected trams will display 'a' alongside their route number to reflect the changes.
  • This year Parliament, Flagstaff and Melbourne Central stations will be open until 3am, with Flinders Street and Southern Cross stations open all night.

Service changes

First to last tram

  • No Route 35 (City Circle) trams run.

From 4pm to 4am

  • Route 30 trams run a shortened service between Stop 1 Spencer Street and St Vincent’s Plaza.
  • Route 70 and 75 trams run a shortened service between Stop 6 Russell Street and the suburbs.
  • Route 86 trams run a shortened service between Stop 119 La Trobe Street and Bundoora RMIT.

From 4.30pm to 4am

  • Route 1 trams run in sections between East Coburg and Stop 8 Melbourne Central Station and between South Melbourne Beach and Stop 1 Flinders Street/Queensbridge Street via Kings Way.
  • Route 6 trams run in sections between Moreland and Stop 8 Melbourne Central Station and between Glen Iris and Stop 20 Anzac Station.
  • Route 3, 16 and 67 trams run a shortened service between Stop 30 St Kilda Junction and the suburbs.
  • Route 5 and 72 trams run a shortened service between Stop 20 Anzac Station and the suburbs.
  • Route 64 trams run a shortened service between Stop 38 Orrong Road and East Brighton.
  • Route 11 and 48 trams run a shortened service between Stop 7 101 Collins Street and the suburbs.
  • Route 12 and 109 trams divert via La Trobe Street between Stop 124 Batman Park and Stop 12 St Vincents Plaza.
  • Route 19, 57 and 59 trams run a shortened service between Stop 5 Melbourne Central Station and the northern suburbs.

 

New Year's Eve tram service changes

Extra trams from 5pm to 3am

  • Along St Kilda Road between Windsor and Stop 20 Anzac Station.
  • Along Swanston Street between Melbourne University and Stop 8 Melbourne Central Station.
  • Along Flinders Street between Stop D6 Flinders Street West and Stop 4 Flinders Street Station/ Elizabeth Street.
  • Along Collins Street between Victoria Harbour Docklands and Stop 5 Elizabeth Street.


From 9pm to 10.30pm, additional Route 82 trams run between Footscray and Stop 48 Wests Road.
