The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) and Yarra Trams regularly carry out maintenance and upgrade work across the network to improve operations and passenger experience.

As a result of the completion of Anzac Station, we will reconfigure and reinstate overhead tram wires and associated infrastructure at the intersection of Domain and St Kilda roads.

Part of Domain and St Kilda roads will have disruptions from Monday 28 April, including full road closures of parts of Domain and St Kilda roads from 9pm, Friday 13 June to 4am, Monday 16 June 2025.

Early works

When:
7am to 5pm, Monday 28 April to Friday 2 May 2025 and 9pm to 7am, Sunday 8 June to Friday 13 June 2025
on Domain Road, between Dallas Brooks Drive and St Kilda Road.

What’s happening:

  • Setting up site and traffic management.
  • Preparing poles for the installation of new overhead wires.
  • Hauling underground tram power cables.
  • Reinstating the site.

What to expect:

  • Mostly low levels of noise.
  • 7am to 5pm, Monday 28 April to Friday 2 May 2025, Domain Road will be open with localised traffic management.
  • 9pm to 7am, Sunday 8 June to Friday 13 June, Domain Road will be closed.
  • Vehicles, trucks, machinery and contractors on site.
  • Access to properties will not be affected by the works.
  • Footpaths will remain open, temporary detours may be in place at some times.
  • No changes to tram services.

Major works

When:
9pm, Friday 13 June to 4am, Monday 16 June 2025 (24-hour works)
on Domain Road, between Dallas Brooks Drive and St Kilda Road,
and St Kilda Road, at the intersection of Domain Roads.

What's happening:

  • Setting up site and traffic management.
  • Installation of new overhead tram wires in Domain Road.
  • Installation of new and reconfiguring overhead tram wires at the intersection of Domain and St Kilda roads.
  • Reinstating the site.

What to expect:

  • 24-hour works.
  • Closure of Domain Road with bollards bordering the work zone, including closure of south-bound traffic at St Kilda Road.
  • Mostly low levels of noise.
  • Detours for bike riders, pedestrians and traffic.
  • Businesses will remain open.
  • Footpaths will remain open, temporary detours may be in place at some times.
  • There will be no change to traffic, public transport or parking arrangements when works are complete.
  • Service changes to tram routes on St Kilda Road and route 58. For further details go to Service changes - Yarra Trams
  • There will be some impact to Route 605 bus services, diverting around the work zone via the Shrine of Remembrance.
