St Georges Road, Northcote and Thornbury Overhead Works

The Department of Transport and Planning and Yarra Trams regularly carry out maintenance and renewal works across the network to improve operations and passenger experience.
We will soon be completing maintenance and renewal works to tram poles and overhead wires within the tram reserve along St Georges Road between Elizabeth Road, Northcote and Miller Street, Thornbury.
Early works
- 10pm to 5am, Sunday 6 October to Wednesday 30 October 2024 (Sunday to Thursday nights only).
Major works
- 3am, Saturday 9 November to 5am, Monday 11 November 2024 (24-hour works).
What’s happening
- Setting up work areas including traffic management.
- Replacing some parts of existing poles.
- Installing new poles.
- Removing old tram overhead wires and replacing them with new wires.
- Reinstating the site after each shift. (Early works)
What to expect
- Works will progress along the length of St Georges Road within the tram reserve over the period of the works.
- Temporary lane closures will be in place to safely undertake the works as required.
- Temporary reduced speed limits will be in place as required.
- The east-west road crossings along St Georges Road will have temporary detours when works are occurring near these intersections.
- Detours for bike riders and pedestrians as required within some work areas.
- Vehicles, trucks, machinery and contractors on site.
- Access to properties will not be affected by the works.
- Footpaths will be open. Temporary detours may be in place.
- Traffic management and signage will direct traffic. Please follow signage around works.
Service changes
There will be service changes to tram Route 11:
- from 8.30pm to last tram on:
- Sunday 20 to Tuesday 22 October 2024
- Sunday 27 to Tuesday 29 October 2024
and
- from 3am Saturday 9 November to last tram Sunday 10 November 2024.
