Queens Bridge Street, Southbank
Friday 14 August to Monday 17 August 2026.
We’re resurfacing the tram reserve and replacing old poles along Queens Bridge Street, Southbank. We’ll also repair the bridge expansion joints on Queens Bridge Street bridge.
These works will help to make our tram and road network safer, more reliable and prepared to meet future needs.
To assist with 1-29 Queens Bridge Street development, we will move our overhead tram wires and move them underground.
Early Works:
- From 8pm to 5am, Sunday 2 to Thursday 6 August.
- From 7am to 5pm, Friday 14 August.
Early work activities include:
- Removing redundant cables during night works.
- Trenching to install conduits for new cables during day works
Impacts:
- Traffic lanes, bike lanes and car parking closures as required, along Queens Bridge Street.
- Noise levels will be mostly low. There will be short periods where noise levels may slightly increase to medium.
- No impact to trams, buses, or pedestrians.
- Crews will move along as the works progress
Main Works:
24-hour works from 8pm, Friday 14 August to 5am, Monday 17 August 2026.
Main works activities include:
- Site and traffic management set up and removal.
- Removing old overhead cables and place them underground.
- Repairing two pairs of expansion joints on Queens Bridge Street bridge.
- Re-surfacing the tram reserve along Queens Bridge Street, between Flinders Street and City Road, Southbank.
Impacts:
- 24/7 works.
- Traffic lanes, bike lanes and car parking closures.
- Medium to high levels of noise.
- Businesses located around the works will remain open. Please continue to support local business during these essential works.

Public transport

Pedestrians:
Footpaths will remain open around the works area. There may be temporary footpath closures where we are upgrading the footpaths. Temporary detours may be in place. Please follow the signage around the works.
