Plenty Road and Tyler Street Preston Stop 52 Reinstatement

We’re making safety improvements at the Plenty Road and Tyler Street intersection and returning the northbound tram stop 52 to a new location north of the intersection near Frier Avenue.
Our works will make traffic lanes more consistent along Plenty Road and improve safety for pedestrians.
Northbound tram stop 52 will be operational after the works are complete.
To deliver these works safely, the intersection of Plenty Road and Tyler Street will be closed to traffic for one day from 9am, Monday 30 June to 3am, Tuesday 1 July. Buses will replace trams on Route 86 during this time.
When?
Intersection and signaling works
Day works: 8am to 5pm
- Monday 16 June to Thursday 19 June 2025.
- Monday 23 June to Monday 30 June 2025.
Night works: 6pm to 5am
- Sunday 15 June to Wednesday 18 June 2025.
- Saturday 21 June to Wednesday 25 June 2025.
Re-sheeting and finishing works
Day and night works:
- 9am, Monday 30 June to 3am, Tuesday 1 July 2025.
- 6pm to 5am, Wednesday 2 July to Monday 7 July 2025.
What’s happening?
Intersection and signaling works
- Remove existing traffic island.
- Demolish existing kerb and footpath (south west corner).
- Construct new kerb in realigned position, with wider footpath.
- Construct new pole foundations.
- Adjust intersection signals.
Re-sheeting
- Profiling and re-sheeting the intersection with asphalt.
Finishing works
- New tram flag installation.
- Line marking.
- Installation of signal detector loops in the road.
- Minor electrical works.
What to expect
- Vehicle, machinery and contractors on site.
- Lane closures and minor traffic management at most times.
- Medium to high levels of noise.
- Temporary reduced speed limits around the work site.
- Businesses will remain open.
- Access to properties will not be impacted.
- Buses replacing trams on Route 86 from 9am to last tram, Monday 30 June.
- Permanent removal of one car park in Tyler Street.
Public Transport
There will be service changes to tram Route 86 from 9am to last tram, Monday 30 June. Buses will replace trams during these times.
Tram services will not be affected during other stages of the works.

Noise and dust
Some noise and dust are unavoidable, but we will work to minimise this as much as possible. Most activity will be medium level noise, with some periods of high level noise when saw cutting and excavating.
Re-sheeting will involve high to medium levels of noise.
Open for business
Businesses located around the works area will remain open during the works. Please continue to support your local businesses during these essential infrastructure works.
Pedestrians
Footpaths will be open. Temporary detours may be in place. Please follow signage around works.
