Moonee Ponds Drivers Facilities
Monday 29 April to end June 2024
The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) and Yarra Trams regularly carry out maintenance and upgrades across the network to improve operations and safety. One of these upcoming improvements will be the installation of new drivers facilities at the tram terminus in Pascoe Vale Road, Moonee Ponds.
Having toilet facilities at termini is essential for the health and wellbeing of tram drivers. At some termini, dedicated toilets are not available and drivers are required to use nearby facilities. This poses a safety risk to our staff, particularly at night. The terminus in Pascoe Vale Road has been identified as one such location, as well as some other locations on the tram network.
To avoid using any public space such as footpaths or car parks, we will position the new facility at the end of the tram terminus. Moonee Valley City Council provided feedback for the final design, and local artist Tegan Iversen has been commissioned to design the external finish. Printing and installation of the vinyl wrap will also be provided by Printing with Purpose, an Aboriginal female owned and managed printing manufacturing firm, formed as a 100% Aboriginal Social Enterprise.
The facility will be for the sole use of tram drivers and other public transport staff. It will be locked at all times and not accessible to the public.
To minimise construction impacts, we will prefabricate the facility offsite and then install the new facility from the end of April. Some civil works will be required to install the facility and provide water and electricity connection.
