Yarra Trams runs special service for Camp Quality

18 Jul 2022

Earlier this month, a group of special kids living with cancer were treated to a ride on their very own private tram as part of their big weekend out with Camp Quality, a charity that supports kids living with cancer and their families.

The special service E-class tram took the 30 children and their carers to-and-from their carnival-themed Junior Camp at the Melbourne Sports Centre - Parkville and their very special dinner at Government House on St Kilda Road.

Camp Quality's programs and services help families build optimism and resilience through community, education and fun. They are there for kids dealing with their own cancer diagnosis, or the diagnosis of a sibling, parent or carer, every step of the way. Junior Camps create a fun and happy environment for children aged 7 to 9 to learn, laugh and rediscover their strengths.

These camps also offer the opportunity for children to have a break from the intensity of the treatment cycle and meet other kids who understand what they’re going through.

This special service was the brainchild of one of our drivers, Kylie (who volunteers with Camp Quality), and for many of these kids it was their first ride on a tram. The invite-only event provided a safe journey away from the risk posed by the general public to these immunocompromised children.

The music was pumping, the kids were having a boogie, it was smiles all round, and we were delighted to be able to play a small role in making the weekend a memorable one for every one of those thirty children.
