Yarra Trams celebrates international women and girls in science day

11 Feb 2022

Today is the United Nations International Day of Women and Girls in Science which aims to reduce the significant gender gap that persists at all levels of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines all over the world. Still less than a quarter of students studying STEM subjects are female.

This is Dianne, Yarra Trams’ Head of Engineering – Civil and Structural Systems. She went from a young girl who loved maths and science and with an interest in how things worked, to our Head of Engineering making the world’s largest tram network safer and more reliable.

As for Dianne’s advice to women and girls pursuing a career in engineering or science? "A lot of it is about grabbing opportunities when they come and I’m committed to finding ways to keep fresh graduates invigorated to keep learning and progressing, and ensure they have good career opportunities.”
