Rhino takes on the world and wins!
Tuesday 8 October 2013
Yarra Trams' Beware the Rhino campaign has taken out
another award - this time for the Most Significant Safety
Initiative at the 2013 Global Light Rail Awards in London.
The submission was judged as the world's best showing tangible
impacts, direct passenger and employee benefits, innovation and
value for money.
The first rhino campaign resulted in a 26 per cent reduction in
tram-pedestrian accidents in the 12 months following the campaign's
launch. The rhino recently returned to alert car drivers of
the dangers of turning in front of or driving too close to
trams.
The early signs are also good with a 28.5 per cent reduction in
tram-vehicle accidents in the first 3 months compared to the same
time the previous year.
The award was collected in London by Thierry Guinard, Keolis
Group's Safety Director. Yarra Trams is operated by the KDR
Victoria joint venture between partners Keolis
and Downer
EDI.
