Our new Route 58, extended Route 6 and updated timetables from 1 May 2017

Melbourne is growing, and so are we. From 1 May, we're introducing Route 58 from West Coburg to Toorak and extending Route 6 from Moreland to Glen Iris via Melbourne University. We're updating our tram timetables to meet the city's future needs.
New Route 58 from West Coburg to Toorak
Route 58 merges routes 55 and 8 to improve services to meet high demand in the city's inner west and north-west. The new route will be operated by Essendon and Malvern depots. Route 58 will have D, B and Z-Class trams.
Route 58 delivers low-floor trams to the Parkville hospital precinct and Melbourne Zoo for the first time. Up to 10 low-floor trams will run on Route 58 during peak times.
Key destinations
- Parkville hospital precinct: Royal Melbourne Hospital, Royal Children's Hospital, Royal Women's Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre
- CBD west end: William Street including Melbourne's corporate and legal precinct
- Tourism: Queen Victoria Market, Shrine of Remembrance, Melbourne Aquarium, Immigration Museum, Crown Entertainment Complex and Southbank Promenade
- Leisure: Melbourne Zoo, Royal Botanical Gardens, Chapel Street shopping precinct, Toorak Road shopping precinct and State Netball Hockey Centre
Improved accessibility
- Low-floor trams to the Parkville hospital precinct and Melbourne Zoo (stop 26)
- Royal Melbourne Hospital (stop 14) and Royal Children's Hospital (stop 19) are level access stops
- Stop 14 provides access to Royal Melbourne Hospital, Royal Women's Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre
Improved connections
- Train connections at Flagstaff Station (City Loop), Flinders Street Station (walk from stop 1), South Yarra Station and, in future, Domain Station
- Tram connections at Domain Interchange (stop 20) for Routes 3, 3a, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67 & 72 (St Kilda Road and Swanston Street trams)
Keeping Melbourne moving
- Reduces congestion along St Kilda Road and Swanston Street, the busiest tram corridor in the world
- Enables delivery of the Metro Tunnel
Extended Route 6 from Moreland to Glen Iris
The new Route 58 has enabled Route 6 to be extended from Moreland to Glen Iris via Melbourne University. Train connections include Prahran Station and Armadale Station.
Route 6 will be operated by Brunswick and Malvern depots from 1 May. The extended route will run D, B and Z-Class trams. One-third of trams on Route 6 will be low-floor.

- Education: University of Melbourne, RMIT University and Melbourne Polytechnic (Prahran campus)
- Leisure: Chapel Street, High Street, Lygon Street and Glenferrie Road
Updated tram timetables
Tram patronage has grown by 7.6 per cent in the past year, with more than 200 million trips taken across Melbourne's tram network.
- New timetables provide more capacity where it is needed most, particularly during peak times
- Journey times have been updated to reflect increasing congestion on Melbourne's roads (75 per cent of the tram network is on shared roads)
- Tram frequency information has been improved to help you plan your journey
