New Green Depots for World Environment Day

On Thursday 5 June Yarra Trams launched its two newest Green
Depots to coincide with World Environment Day.
Essendon and Southbank depots will now be 'doing their bit' for
the planet with a number of environmentally friendly
innovations.
Essendon
- Installation of LED lights, motion sensors throughout the depot
- Raingarden to filter pollutants from stormwater
- 2x 22,500 litre rainwater tanks to supply rainwater to toilets
- Recycling hubs in admin and maintenance area to minimise waste to landfill (paper, general waste, organic material, toner cartridges, batteries)
- Upgraded waterless urinals
- Storm water drains labelled

Southbank
- 5KW solar system (20 panels)
- 600W wind turbine
- Solatube - replacement of fluorescent lights with natural lighting
- Installation of 176 LED lights, 8 motion sensors
- Raingarden to filter pollutants from stormwater
- 2x 22,500 litre rainwater tanks to supply rainwater to toilets
- Recycling hubs in admin and maintenance area, to minimise waste to landfill (paper, general waste, organic material, toner cartridges, batteries)
- Upgraded waterless urinals
- Storm water drains labelled
These are the fifth and six depots on the network to achieve 'green' status. Camberwell and Kew Depot will be upgraded at a later date.
