Message from our Chief Operating Officer
24 Mar 2020
As we all come to terms with the growing challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic, our priority is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our people and passengers.
With this in mind, and based on the latest advice from relevant authorities, I wanted to share some of the measures we have put in place to support our people and the business throughout this very challenging time.
All trams are now getting deep cleaned every night.
We are currently installing plastic film to cover passenger/driver speaking locations in the driver’s cabin door.
All sites now have social distancing measures in place based on guidelines that we have implemented, these include.
- CSEs being advised to keep a socially acceptable distance from people that they are dealing with on platforms.
- And Authorised Officer's being encouraged to only check myki’s if it is safe to do so.
Last week we also published guidelines for the cleaning of shared vehicles, including recovery trucks, and we have locked down the Unified Operations Centre and created seclusion zones around our operational teams.
In addition to these measures, we are also looking into processes related to the collection of lost property by our drivers and pickups in depots; and ensuring all windows are unlocked and able to be opened.
Finally, I would like to acknowledge the tremendous effort and unwavering commitment from our people to keep delivering essential public transport services to the people of Melbourne.
I know that at the heart and soul of Yarra Trams are our operational teams. To those who get up before sunrise, or finish well after the sun sets, I want to thank them for your efforts. It does not matter if they drive or maintain a tram, keep the network running behind the scenes or support our passengers, they have all played a part in keeping Melbourne moving.
We will continue to do whatever we can, to work together to get through this.
Stay safe everyone and take care.
COO, Yarra Trams
