The mayors of the municipalities that are home to AFL grand finalists Collingwood and St Kilda have taken their competitive spirit to a new high.
City of Port Phillip Mayor Frank O'Connor and the City of Yarra
Mayor Jane Garrett competed to decorate a tram each in the colours
of their much loved teams.
Yarra Trams started the ball rolling by putting team scarves on the
trams and "Go Saints" and "Go Magpies" fronts.
Cr Garrett who is supporting her local team, and Cr O'Connor, a life-long St Kilda supporter, showed their true colours on neutral ground near the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
The stakes were upped when both mayors agreed that the supporter of the losing grand final team would wear the opposing team's guernsey when chairing their next council meeting.
Both teams did a brilliant job of decorating their team trams but unfortunately there could only be one winner.
Yarra Trams Chief Operating Officer Clement Michel announced that Mayor O'Connor and his team from the City of Port Phillip had won with their magnificently decorated Saints tram.
It was a close contest with both trams now travelling Melbourne's tram network as mobile shrines to the two proud clubs.
Look out for them as you soak up the grand final atmosphere.
