Getting our trams back in service
21 Jan 2022
A proud moment for our Preston Workshops’ Rolling Stock Heavy Maintenance team, as well as well as our Rolling Stock Projects, Rolling Stock Additional Works, and Supply Chain management teams. Yesterday members from these teams gathered for a socially distanced barbecue as we returned two trams to service that needed extensive and complex refurbishment work lasting several years.
In 2018 B-class tram 2075 received extensive fire and smoke damage following a rare battery fault, with some systems requiring a full rebuild from the ground up. This project was extremely complex, with some parts and systems requiring custom design and manufacturing for this ~30 year old tram.
Also in 2018 D-class tram 5017 was side-swiped by a large truck on Sydney Road and received complex structural damage along much of the tram that required extensive engineering work to repair.
We're incredibly proud both these trams will be reentering service soon and thank you to the dozens of hands that played a role in getting these trams back on the road.
