Flinders St Substation Facade Installation Works
Friday 27 April 2018
Public Transport Victoria and Yarra Trams will soon be installing a façade around the tram power substation on Flinders Street, opposite Bond Street.
Civil works and facade installation
Civil works to construct footings for the façade have been completed. Construction works to install the permanent substation façade will commence Friday 11 May and will take approximately two weeks.
> Monday - Friday, 7am - 3pm and weekends, 8am - 4pm (as required)
These works will predominately occur in the area behind a hoarding that is in place on-site and behind scaffolding which will be stalled around the substation.
Night works
Some unavoidable night time activity is scheduled on:
> Friday 11 May, Saturday 12 May & Tuesday 15 May
These night activities will occur between 8pm - 5am, involving machinery lifting structural steelwork into place.
These night works will require a partial lane closure on the station side of Flinders St and the temporary detour of pedestrian traffic. Please heed warning signs and follow the direction of traffic controllers.
Motorists and pedistrians
To ensure these works are carried out safely, traffic management will be implemented as required for both motorists and pedestrians. Please heed warning signs and follow the direction of traffic controllers.
Tram services will not be affected.
Minimising impacts for the local community
Businesses and residents can expect to hear construction related noise. Works carried out during night will utilise flood lights to assist work being carried out safely. We will be mindful of keeping noise to a minimum and respecting the needs of the local community.
Keeping the local community informed
We are committed to keeping the local community informed of construction activity and progress and thank you for your patience and understanding during this important upgrade work.
