Public Event - Grand Prix - Thursday 22 March to Sunday 25 March

Thursday 22 March to Sunday 25 March 2018

High frequency extra trams will operate for the Grand Prix from Thursday 22 March to Sunday 25 March, with service changes affecting some routes in the CBD on Saturday 24 March and Sunday 25 March, from 5.30am to 8.30pm each day.

Trams are operating in sections or terminating prior to their usual destinations. Use Grand Prix or Flower & Garden Show shuttle trams to connect.

Service changes on Saturday and Sunday

First tram to 8.30pm

  • Route 1 trams operating in sections, with no trams between Stop 7 RMIT University and a temporary stop on Southbank Boulevard near St Kilda Road. Take any Grand Prix shuttle tram to connect.
  • Route 3a trams operating between East Malvern and Stop 32 Havelock Street near Luna Park. Take Grand Prix Luna Park shuttle trams to connect.
  • Route 5 trams operating between Malvern and a temporary stop on Dandenong Road near Chapel Street. Take Grand Prix Windsor shuttle trams to connect.
  • Route 6 trams operating in sections, with no trams between Stop 7 RMIT University and a temporary stop on High Street near St Kilda Road. Take any Grand Prix shuttle tram to connect.
  • Route 12 trams not servicing Stop 124 Batman Park or Stop 124A Casino/MCEC.
  • Route 16 trams operating between Kew and Stop 32 Havelock Street near Luna Park. Take Grand Prix Luna Park shuttle trams to connect.
  • Route 64 trams operating between East Brighton and a temporary stop on Dandenong Road near Chapel Street. Take Grand Prix Windsor shuttle trams to connect.
  • Route 72 trams operating between Camberwell and a temporary stop on Commercial Road near St Kilda Road. Take any Grand Prix shuttle tram to connect.
  • City Circle trams not servicing Stop 119 Spencer Street and Stop D1 Etihad Stadium.

From 5.30am to 8.30pm

  • Route 86 trams operating between Bundoora RMIT and Stop 1 Southern Cross Station. Consider Route 11, 48, 70, 75 or City Circle trams between CBD and Docklands.
  • Route 96 trams operating between East Brunswick and Stop 1 Southern Cross Station. Buses are replacing Route 96 trams between Bourke Street near William Street and Canterbury Road at Fitzroy Street in St Kilda. No trams operating in Acland Street.

From 6am to 8.30pm

  • Route 109 trams not servicing Stop 124 Batman Park, Stop 124A Casino and Stop 125 Clarendon Street Junction.

From 7am to 8.30pm

  • Route 67 trams operating between Carnegie and Stop 30 St Kilda Junction. Take any Grand Prix shuttle tram to connect.

Getting to the Grand Prix

From Southern Cross Station:

Thursday and Friday: 

  • Gates 1 and 2: Catch Route 96 or Grand Prix Gates 1 and 2 shuttle trams. 
  • Gate 3: Catch Route 12 or Grand Prix Gate 3 shuttle trams.

Saturday and Sunday:

  • Gates 1 and 2: Catch Grand Prix express shuttle trams.
  • Gate 3: Catch Grand Prix Gate 3 shuttle trams, operating express between Southern Cross Station and City Road.

From Flinders Street Station or Melbourne Central Station:

Thursday and Friday: 

  • Gates 5-10: Catch any Swanston Street tram (except Route 1).

Saturday and Sunday:

  • Gates 5-10:  Catch any Grand Prix shuttle tram along Swanston Street/St Kilda Road.

During these changes, trams operating to a higher than usual frequency and may not arrive at the scheduled time. We recommend you plan your journey and allow extra travel time.
