Reason for service changes

We’re renewing tram tracks and overhead wires along Glenferrie Road between Riversdale and Barkers roads. Delivering these essential works will ensure a safe and reliable tram network for passengers and the community.

Service changes

Route 16 trams run a shortened service between Melbourne University and Stop 48 Hawthorn Road.

Buses replace trams between Stop 48 Hawthorn Road and Kew diverting around the work zone in Glenferrie Road.

Replacement buses

Tram replacement buses travel via Riversdale, Auburn and Barkers roads.

Replacement buses are low floor. If you need assistance, speak to our customer service team or alert your driver. 

Alternative travel options

Pre-booked taxis can be organized for passengers who provide notice of travel at least 24hrs in advance. Call 1800 800 007 for options.

Standby taxi service is available at the following locations on weekdays 8am-6pm and on weekends 10am-6pm to transport you within the work zone:

• Liddiard Street
• Oxley Road

Consider Belgrave, Lilydale and Alamein trains between the city and Glenferrie Station.

Use trains between Glenferrie Road and Auburn Station to connect with tram replacement buses traveling along Auburn Road.

Trams and replacement buses run to normal frequency during works, however there may be delays due to traffic congestion around the area.

Allow extra time for your journey, and always wear a face mask while traveling.
