Major construction works are taking place across the Metro train network. An increased demand for tram services and delays due to traffic congestion is expected during this time.

Sandringham

Buses replace trains between Flinders Street and Sandringham on the following dates:

  • Saturday 6 April
  • Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 April
  • Thursday 18 to Monday 22 April

Increased demand is expected on Route 3/3a, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67 and 78 trams during these times.

Hurstbridge/Mernda

Buses replace trains on sections of the Hurstbridge and Mernda line at various times during the first half of April. The following dates may have an impact on tram services:

  • Hurstbridge: 8.20pm to last train each night Monday 1 April - Wednesday 3 April, bus replacements between Parliament and Clifton Hill.
  • Mernda: first train Thursday 4 April to last train Tuesday 9 April, bus replacements between Thornbury and Epping.

Route 11 and 86 trams may experience an increased demand during these times.

Glen Waverley

Buses replace trains between Burnley and Darling stations on Saturday 13 April and Sunday 14 April.

Increased demand for tram services is expected on Route 48, 70, 75 and 78 during this time.

Key impacted areas

We expect to see higher than usual demand for tram services or delays due to extra traffic at key train locations, including:

  • Caulfield Station on the Route 3/3a
  • Balaclava Station/Carlisle Street on the Route 3/3a and 16
  • Armadale Station/High Street on the Route 6
  • South Yarra Station/Toorak Rd on the Route 58
  • Elsternwick Station /Glenhuntly Road on the Route 67
  • Richmond Station/Swan St on the Route 70
  • Toorak Station/Malvern Rd on the Route 72
  • Flinders St Station/Swanston St for St Kilda Rd trams

Alternative travel options

We encourage tram passengers to consider alternative options for travel where possible, in order to avoid crowds and potential delays during the works.

  • Passengers can connect to Bus 605 at Stop 46 Kooyong Rd/Balaclava Rd (on the Route 3/3a and 16) which travels from Gardenvale to Flagstaff Station.
  • Bus 606 from Elsternwick Station to Victoria Avenue, connecting at Stop 30 Richardson Street/Victoria Avenue for Route 1 trams into the city.
  • Bus 246 from Elsternwick Station to Richmond Station via St Kilda, travelling along Punt Rd.
  • Passengers may also consider 216 219 or 220 buses between Elsternwick Station/Orrong Rd and Alfred Hospital, changing at Alfred Hospital/Commercial Rd to connect to St Kilda Rd trams into the city.

AFL fans should allow extra time to get to the MCG in April, with a number of train lines not running to Richmond Station. The Free Tram Zone will be extended to the MCG on Wellington Parade for affected games.

We encourage you to plan ahead and allow extra time for your tram journey or consider alternative travel options where possible.
