Reason for service changes

We’re renewing tram tracks on Glen Huntly Road, between Hawthorn Road and Pearce Street in Caulfield South.

Over the first weekend, we’re also renewing tram tracks on Truganini Road, between Graceburn Avenue and Koornang Road in Carnegie.

Service changes

From 9pm Friday 22 March to 5am Saturday 30 March

  • Route 5 evening services extend between Malvern and Stop 30 St Kilda Junction. Take routes 3/3a, 16, 64 or 67 to continue your journey towards Melbourne University.

  • Route 64 trams divert via St Kilda Road, Carlisle Street and Balaclava Road, along Route 16.

    Buses replace trams between Stop 38 Orrong Rd and Stop 51 Balaclava Rd, servicing temporary stops along the route within 150m of existing tram stops. 

    The following tram stops will not be serviced by replacement buses: 

    o Stop 48 Hawthorn Rd/Dandenong Rd (in both directions)
     Connect using Stop 48A Dandenong Rd/Hawthorn Rd (up to 150m / 2min walk) 

    On weekdays during peak hours, extra Route 64 trams will run between Stop 30 St Kilda Junction and Stop 38 Orrong Rd to connect with buses. ​

    Alternatively, use Route 5 trams to travel between Stop 30 St Kilda Junction and Stop 40 Wattletree Rd/Dandenong Rd. 

From 2.00am Saturday 23 March to 5am Saturday 30 March

  • Route 67 trams run between Stop 38 Brunning St and Melbourne University. 

    Buses replace trams between Stop 38 Brunning St and Carnegie, diverting around the work zone via Hawthorn, Glen Eira and Bambra roads.  

    The following tram stops will not be serviced by replacement buses:

    Use Stop 42 Hotham Rd/Brighton Rd. Up to 180m / 3 min walk

    o Stop 51 Hawthorn Rd/Glenhuntly Rd (towards Melbourne University)

    Use Stop 50 Royal Pde/Glenhuntly Rd. Up to 350m / 5 min walk

    o Stop 52 Jasmine St/Glenhuntly Rd (towards Melbourne University)

    Use Stop 50 Royal Pde/Glenhuntly Rd. Up to 550m / 6 min walk

    o Stop 52 Jasmine St/Glenhuntly Rd (towards Carnegie)

    Use Stop 51 Hawthorn Rd/Glenhuntly Rd. Up to 200m / 2 min walk

    o Stop 53 Glenhuntly Tram Depot/Glenhuntly Rd (both directions)

    Use Stop 55 Fallon St/Glenhuntly Rd. Up to 350m / 5 min walk 

    o Stop 54 Bambra Rd/Glenhuntly Rd (both directions)

    Use Stop 55 Fallon St/Glenhuntly Rd. Up to 180m / 3 min walk

    From 2.30am Saturday 23 March to 5am Monday 25 March

    o Stop 66 Truganini Rd/Glenhuntly Rd (both directions)

    o Stop 67 Centre Rd/Truganini Rd (both directions)

    o Stop 68 Koornang Rd/Truganini Rd (both directions)

    Accessibility

Please note the following changes to accessibility: 

  • Route 5 will run low-floor trams depending on availability

  • Route 64 and 67 will not run low-floor trams

Replacement buses are low-floor depending on availability. If you need assistance, please speak to our customer service team or alert your driver.

Alternative travel options

If possible, avoid the area and consider alternative travel options for the duration of works.

  •  Cranbourne, Frankston, Pakenham or Sandringham line trains (weekdays only). Please note, buses replace trains across the Cranbourne, Frankston, Pakenham and Sandringham lines between 10.40pm and 11pm Friday 22 March to last train Sunday 24 March. For more information, click here.

  • Route 216 and 219 buses between Dandenong or Glen Huntly roads and the The Alfred Hospital. Continue your journey to the city using trams along St Kilda Road.

  • Route 16 trams along Hawthorn Road, running towards Melbourne University or Kew.

During the works, trams and replacement buses run to the normal frequency; however, some delays may occur due to traffic congestion. Please plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
