Getting to the Grand Prix
Gates 1, 2 and 3
Extra trams run between Southern Cross Station and Gates 1 and 2 on Thursday and Friday. Catch Route 12 trams for Gate 3.
On the weekend, high frequency Grand Prix shuttle trams run express between Southern Cross Station and Gates 1 and 2. Extra trams run between Southern Cross Station and Gate 3, running express between Southern Cross Station and City Road.
Gates 5, 8, 9 and 10
St Kilda Road trams run normally Thursday and Friday. Catch any tram (except Route 1) to get to your gate. High frequency Grand Prix shuttle trams run between Melbourne Central Station and Gates 5, 8, 9 and 10 via Swanston Street and St Kilda Road on the weekend.
Tram travel to and from the Grand Prix is free for ticket holders, only valid on the day of admission. During these times, trams run to a higher than usual frequency, however they may not arrive at the scheduled time. We encourage you to plan your journey and allow extra travel time.
Tram service changes
Trams run normally during the week with extra services running for the event. During the weekend, the following service changes apply.
From first tram to 8.30pm
Route 1 and 6
Trams run in sections, with no trams between RMIT University and Stop 17 Sturt St / Southbank Boulevard or High Street near St Kilda Road. Take Grand Prix shuttle trams to connect.
Route 3a and 16
No trams run between Melbourne University and Stop 32 Havelock St near Luna Park. Take Grand Prix Luna Park shuttle trams to connect.
Route 5, 64 and 72
No trams run between Melbourne University and Chapel Street / Dandenong Road or Commercial Road near St Kilda Road. Take Grand Prix shuttle trams to connect.
Trams run express. Stop 124 Batman Park and Stop 124A Casino / MCEC not serviced.
No trams between Stop 1 Spencer St and Docklands.
Trams won't service Stop 119 Spencer St and Stop D2 Central Pier.
From 5.30am to 8.30pm
No trams run between Southern Cross Station and Waterfront City Docklands. Consider Route 11, 48, 70, 75 or City Circle trams.
Buses replace trams between Bourke Street near William Street, and Cantebury Road and Fitzroy Street. No trams run in Acland Street.
From 6am to 8.30pm
Trams run express. Stop 124 Batman Park, Stop 124A Casino / MCEC and Stop 125 Clarendon St Junction not serviced.
From 7am to 8.30pm
No trams between Melbourne University and Stop 30 St Kilda Junction. Take Grand Prix shuttle trams to connect.
