This is how we Tram, Melbourne!
Sunday 19 November 2017
Nothing is more important to Yarra Trams than the safety of employees, passengers and the community.
More than 75 percent of Melbourne's tram network is shared with traffic, so it's critical that everyone knows how to stay safe when travelling on and around trams.
In financial year 2016/17 there were 375 passenger falls on trams, an average of one every day.
Twenty-five percent of passenger falls occur when the tram driver applies the emergency brakes, while 21 percent occur when the tram accelerates.
Trams have been a part of Melbourne for over 100 years but there is always more that can be done to improve safety.
That's why we are introducing Tram Coach, who brings a new approach to reminding and educating passengers about tram safety.
He has a simple message to tram passengers:
- Sit Tight
- Grip Right
- Stand Strong
Look out for his tips on board trams, at tram stops and on social media!
