Yarra Trams delivered 97.9 per cent of services in November with 79.3 per cent of services arriving on time. The result for reliability means that Yarra Trams has not met the performance threshold and eligible passengers may claim compensation.
The variability of Melbourne's weather presents challenges for everyone and trams are no exception, particularly given the age and size of the tram network.
November set new temperature records including 12 days above 30 degrees, nine consecutive days over 28 degrees and new average temperatures recorded in many places. This was a significant contributing factor in our reliability result, along with numerous third-party disruptions. Five separate rallies held during the month affected eight tram routes for a total of nearly 22 hours.
Trams share the city's roads and traffic congestion is a leading factor affecting tram performance, which is why we continue to work closely with our on-road partners including VicRoads to find ways to make journey times more reliable.
