Route 86 - Permanent closure of Stop 46 - Plenty Road

With the $190 million redevelopment of New Preston Depot on St. Georges Road now complete, tram operations previously conducted at the East Preston Depot on Plenty Road have been moved to the new workshops. As a result, the East Preston Tram Depot is no longer operational and has since been decommissioned.

When will the tram Stop 46 on Plenty Road be closed?

The removal of tram Stop 46 on Plenty Road (in front of the old East Preston Tram Depot) will occur between Tuesday 11 October and Friday 14 October 2016.

Why is Stop 46 being closed?

There is currently an inbound and outbound tram stop located at the entrance of the old East Preston Tram Depot. This was previously used by Route 86 tram drivers when changing shifts. With the transition of East Preston Depot operations to the New Preston Depot, these stops are no longer required.

What does this mean for passengers that currently use Stop 46?

Stop 46 on Plenty Road is in very close proximity of adjacent stops. It is approximately 100 metres to the outbound Stop 45, and 80 metres to the inbound Stop 45. Passengers currently using Stop 46 will be catered for at the existing Stop 45 at Bell Street.

Tram services during the closure of Stop 46

There will be no tram service disruptions during the closure of Stop 46, Plenty Road. Work will be conducted at night after last tram services and before first tram services resume in the morning. Trams will not stop at Stop 46, inbound or outbound after last tram service on Monday 10 October 2016.

Motorists during the closure of Stop 46, Plenty Road

Lane closures will be in place around the work zone at Stop 46, Plenty Road. One lane of traffic will still be open to allow for through traffic. Signage and traffic controllers will be in place to guide motorists around the work site.
