Camberwell Junction track maintenance

Friday 20 May 2016

As part of the modernisation of Melbourne's tram network, Yarra Trams and Public Transport Victoria are repairing tram tracks and overhead wires at Camberwell Junction. Major work will take place at the entrance of Camberwell Tram Depot on Riversdale Road, with additional overhead wire works occurring on Burke Road.

Tram track infrastructure and overhead wires in this section of Riversdale Road require upgrading. To minimise future disruptions, overhead wires will also be upgraded on Burke Road and through Camberwell Junction. The upgraded infrastructure will ensure that Yarra Trams is able to continue to deliver a safe and reliable network.

Timings

Major work

Major work will occur at Camberwell Junction on Riversdale Road between Burke Road and Havelock/Redfern Road. Work will commence at 12:01am on Saturday, 11 June 2016 and continue 24 hours a day until 4:00am on Tuesday, 14 June 2016.

In addition, overhead wire renewal work will occur on Burke Road from 8:00pm on Monday, 13 June until 4:00am on Tuesday, 14 June 2016 between Denmark Hill Road and Prospect Hill Road. Overhead wires will also be renewed within Camberwell Junction at this time.

Tram passengers

Route 70, 72 and 75 trams will be affected. Tram replacement bus services will be in place for the duration of the major work period. For details closer to the time, refer to signage on the network, onboard brochures and tramTRACKER.

Pedestrians

The work zone will be fenced off for safety but footpaths will remain open to allow pedestrian access to all businesses and residences on Riversdale Road during the three-day work period, and on Burke Road from 8pm on Monday, 13 June until 4:00am on Tuesday, 14 June.

Motorists

Riversdale Road will be closed to motorists between Burke/Camberwell Road and Havelock/Redfern Road from 12:01am on Saturday, 11 June until 4:00am on Tuesday, 14 June 2016. Detours will be in place for the duration of the project.

Access to driveways on Riversdale Road within the work zone will be severely restricted and all on-street parking removed. Residents and traders are advised to use parking on side streets to prevent heavy delays during the work period.

During overhead wire renewal from 8:00pm on Monday, 13 June to 4:00am on Tuesday, 14 June 2016, Burke Road will be closed to all motorists between Denmark Hill Road and Prospect Hill Road. Traffic controllers will be in place to manage local access, however please expect delays. Residents and traders are advised to park outside the work zone during this time.

Noise and dust

Associated noise and dust from machinery, vehicles and work crews is unavoidable but Yarra Trams will do all it can to keep this to a minimum.

The noisiest work will occur between 6am and 10pm, however there may be a need to conduct noisy work outside these hours to ensure that all work is completed by 4am on Tuesday, 14 June 2016.
