Plenty Road track maintenance

Tuesday 4 August 2015

As part of the modernisation of Melbourne's tram network, Yarra Trams and Public Transport Victoria are maintaining and repairing tram tracks on Plenty Road, Bundoora. Work will take place on sections between Settlement Road and the Bundoora Tram Terminus at McKimmies Road.

This work will start from 3am Saturday 22 August until 4am Monday 24 August 2015.

This work will be conducted on the weekend outside normal working hours to minimise disruption and ensure the site reopens for normal tram services on Monday morning.

Sections of worn and broken tram tracks on Plenty Road require repairing.

This track work will improve safety for everyone, deliver a better road surface for tram passengers and motorists, and produce less tram noise due to potholes, broken rails and wheel squealing.

Noise and dust

Associated noise and dust from machinery, vehicles and work crews is unavoidable during this work however our workers will be mindful of keeping noise to a minimum.

The use of reverse beepers and flashing lights is a safety requirement and these devices cannot be switched off.

Motorists

Lane closures will be in place on Plenty Road between Settlement Road and McKimmies Road in both directions. Some intersections between Settlement Road and McKimmies Road will also be reduced to left turn in and left turn out only due to work within the tram reserve.

Motorists are also advised that entry to and exit from the Metropolitan Ring Road will also be restricted and to allow extra time to make their journey.

Pedestrians and local businesses

Footpaths will remain open to allow pedestrian access along Plenty Road.

Yarra Trams is working closely with Whittlesea City Council to minimise the impact of this work on local traders.

We thank you for your patience and regret any inconvenience caused by this essential repair work.
