Building for a new look Elizabeth Street
Thursday 10 October 2013
Track works on Elizabeth Street were completed on time, and normal services resumed for routes 19, 57 and 59 on Thursday morning.
While trams have resumed along Elizabeth Street, Yarra Trams is continuing the modernisation of Melbourne's tram network by building three new accessible stops along the street.
Accessible platform stops will provide safer and easier boarding and alighting conditions to more than 210,000 passengers who use Elizabeth Street routes every week.
Key benefits of the new stops include:
- increased safety due to extra protection from road traffic for passengers waiting for trams
- passenger information displays to provide real-time tram arrival information and disruption notification via tramTRACKER
- modern shelters with more seating and improved lighting to improve the passenger waiting experience.
The first accessible stop has opened at La Trobe Street,
with more to follow.
The diagram below shows where tram stops will be located during the construction period, and where the new platform stops will be built.
Passengers should use existing and temporary stops indicated on the diagram until the new platform stops are complete.
