Melbourne's tram network can be affected by extreme weather, including heat and rain. On hot days, trams require increased maintenance to address air conditioning faults and other heat-related issues. On wet days, traffic conditions and flash flooding can cause services to be delayed or altered.

Using trams in extreme weather

  • Please factor extra travel time into your journey
  • Some routes may have less frequent services due to trams being affected by wet conditions or requiring heat-related maintenance
  • Our drivers are in constant contact with our Operations Centre to manage issues
  • We increase our maintenance team to monitor and fix trams at depots and on the network
  • We have extra Passenger Information staff in our Operations Centre to support passengers
  • Our Operations Centre constantly monitors the tram network to ensure the best possible service across all routes
