Yarra Trams has today celebrated the first anniversary of
Tram Hub, our 'depot for people'.
Tram Hub is a showcase of best practice in public transport,
bringing all parts of the business together under one roof for the
first time in the 110-year history of Melbourne's tram network.
The hub is home to our unified power and operations centre,
which brings together the teams that are crucial to the daily
operation of the world's largest tram network. Operations and power
controllers now work in the same room rather than in separate
buildings as had previously been the case. Our customer information
team is based in the operations centre so that they can provide
live updates to passengers via real-time digital channels and
announcements on trams and at stops.
A planning room visually represents the year ahead and the
hundreds of special events taking place across Melbourne that
affect services. Yarra Trams enables more than 1,000 days of events
each year, reflecting the fact that the tram network's integration
in the city and the need for us to work together with partners
across the community.
Drivers, customer service employees and authorised officers use
the hub for breaks, sharing amenities with employees from corporate
functions who are based at Tram Hub. The ability for Tram Hub to
accommodate all parts of the business helps us to work better
