As part of the modernisation of Melbourne's tram
network, Yarra Trams and Public Transport Victoria are renewing
tram tracks and overhead wires on Errol Street in North Melbourne.
To minimise further disruption, curved tram tracks at the
intersections of Victoria and Queensberry Streets will also be

deliver a better road surface for motorists, cyclists and tram
passengers, produce less tram noise due to potholes, broken rails
and wheel squealing, and will be quicker to repair in the future
due to the use of new semi resilient materials.
Preliminary work track renewal
Preliminary work for track renewal will commence on
Tuesday, 30 August 2016 and continue until major
works commence on Saturday, 3 September 2016.
Preliminary work will involve the unloading and pre-welding of
rails in preparation for the track renewal. Some car parking will
be removed on the west side of Errol Street between Errol Place and
Queensberry street to facilitate the welding of rails. Errol Street
will remain open to motorists during this time.
Preliminary work overhead wire
Preliminary work for overhead wire renewal will
commence on Monday 1 August 2016 and continue
until major works commence on Saturday, 3 September
2016. Works will take place along Queensberry Street,
Errol Street and Victoria Street at night after last tram services
and conclude before first tram services of the morning.
Major work track renewal
Major work for track renewal will occur on Errol
Street between Victoria Street and Qeensberry Street. Curved tram
tracks at the intersections of Victoria, Queensberry and Errol
Streets will also be replaced during the major work period. Works
will commence at 1:30am on Saturday 3 September 2016 and continue
24 hours a day until 5:00am Tuesday 6 September 2016. Sections of
Errol, Victoria and Queensberry Streets will be closed to all
motorists with the work-zones during this time.
Major work overhead renewal
In addition to track renewal work on Errol Street,
overhead wires will be replaced on Victoria Street between Errol
Street and Peel Street. This work will commence at Tuesday 6
September and continue until 5:00am Friday 9 September 2016.

Due to the nature of works, there will be a number
of road closures in place from 1:30am Saturday 3 September until
5:00am Friday 9 September 2016.
1. Errol Street will be closed between Victoria
Street and Queensberry Street. There will be no access to lane-ways
or driveways via Errol Street within the work-zone, and all on
street parking will be removed.
2. Queensberry Street will be closed between Errol
Street and Curzon Street.
3. Victoria Street will be closed between Errol
Street and Leveson Street.
The work zone will be fenced off for safety but
footpaths will remain open to allow pedestrian access to all
businesses and residences on Errol Street.
Associated noise and dust from machinery, vehicles
and work crews is unavoidable but Yarra Trams will do all it can to
keep this to a minimum. The noisiest work will occur between 6am
and 10pm. However there may be a need to conduct noisy work outside
these hours to ensure that the work is completed by 5am Friday 9

maintain a safe tram network as required by the Rail Safety Act
